Licence terms

Last updated 1 November 2026

The short version
  • We sell software. We never sell, supply or host content, and Minimus ships empty.
  • You are responsible for the content you carry and for your users. We are not responsible for what our customers stream.
  • Your data stays on your servers. The licence check works offline and Minimus sends us nothing.

The full terms below are what apply.

1. About these terms

These terms (the "Terms") are an agreement between [Company legal name], [registered address], company number [number] ("we", "us") and the business that buys or uses a licence ("you", the "Customer"). By installing, activating or using Minimus you accept these Terms. If you accept on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.

Minimus is self-hosted software for managing and delivering video streams. You install and run it on servers you control. We supply software only, never content.

Software
The Minimus management panel, its streaming engine, installer scripts, updates and documentation that we supply.
Licence Key
The key we issue that activates the Software for your Plan.
Plan
The edition, limits and term set out in your order or invoice.
Content
Any video, audio, channel, stream, playlist, programme-guide data, image, text or other material that you or your End Users ingest, store, process or distribute with the Software.
Customer Data
The data the Software stores on your servers, including accounts, subscriber lines, IP addresses, logs and settings.
End Users
Anyone you let use the Software or receive Content through it, including your staff, resellers and subscribers.

2. Your licence

While your Plan is active and paid, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Software on servers you control, within the limits of your Plan (for example the number of servers), for your own business.

You may not:

  • copy, sell, rent, sublicense or give the Software or your Licence Key to anyone else, unless we agree in writing;
  • remove, bypass or tamper with the Licence Key check, or use the Software beyond your Plan's limits;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or modify the Software, except where the law allows it and cannot be excluded by contract, or an open-source licence allows it (section 10);
  • remove our copyright, trademark or licence notices;
  • use the Software to build a competing product.

Your resellers and End Users get no licence from us. You give them access under your own terms, and those terms must be at least as protective of us and of rights holders as these.

3. We supply software, not content

The Software is delivered empty. We do not provide, sell, host, recommend or link to any channels, streams, films, series, playlists, programme-guide data or content sources, and none are bundled with the Software, its installers or its updates.

Everything the Software carries is added by you, from sources you choose, on servers you control. We do not host, store, transmit or route your Content, and we cannot see it unless you give us access for support (section 7).

4. Your content is your responsibility

You are solely responsible for all Content and for how the Software is used under your Licence Key. You confirm that, for every piece of Content, you hold all the rights, licences and permissions needed to ingest, store, transcode, record and distribute it to your End Users, in every territory where you make it available.

You are also responsible for:

  • your resellers and End Users, and for making them follow terms consistent with these;
  • complying with the laws that apply to your service, including copyright, broadcasting, consumer, tax and data protection law;
  • keeping records of your content licences, and showing them to us if we ask in connection with a notice under section 8.

5. Acceptable use

You must not use the Software, or let anyone use it, to:

  • distribute, restream or make available any Content you do not have the rights to, including channels or streams taken from another provider without its authorisation;
  • remove, bypass or defeat DRM, encryption, watermarks or any other technical protection on Content;
  • evade a court order, blocking order or lawful request from an authority, for example by rotating domains or IP addresses to avoid a block;
  • distribute content that is illegal where it is made available, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, or content that infringes privacy or incites violence;
  • spread malware, attack networks, or send spam;
  • break sanctions or export-control laws.

Using the Software in any of these ways is a material breach of these Terms.

6. Your data and privacy

Customer Data stays on your servers. The Software does not send us your Content, your Customer Data, your End Users' details or usage statistics.

  • Your Licence Key is checked offline, against a public key built into the Software. Activating or running the Software does not contact our servers.
  • Software updates download from GitHub Container Registry, a third-party service, when you run them.
  • The Software contacts third parties only to download public network lists for its security features (VPN, Tor, data-centre and location lists), and services you configure yourself, such as TMDB for film details or your own storage provider. Their own terms apply.

You are the controller of Customer Data, including your End Users' personal data, under data protection laws such as the GDPR. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to process it, giving your End Users a privacy notice, and securing your servers.

We hold only what you give us to buy and manage your licence: company details, contact names, billing details and your Licence Key records. Our privacy policy at [privacy policy link] explains how we use them.

7. Support access

We access your servers or panel only when you ask for help and give us access yourself. When we do:

  • we use the access only for the support request, and only for as long as it takes;
  • we look at Content and Customer Data only as far as the task needs, and we do not copy them off your servers unless you ask;
  • we act as your processor under our support and data processing agreement, which you can request at [email protected];
  • you can withdraw our access at any time, and you should change any credentials you shared once the work is done.

Giving us access does not make us responsible for your Content. If, during support, we see Content that clearly breaks section 5, we may treat it as a notice under section 8.

8. Rights-holder notices, suspension and revocation

Rights holders and authorities can report misuse of the Software to [email protected]. A notice should identify the service, the Content concerned and the rights affected, and give contact details. We keep a record of every notice and what we did about it.

When we receive a credible notice that the Software is being used in breach of section 4 or 5, we may:

  • ask you to respond and show your content licences within 7 days;
  • suspend or revoke your Licence Key, without notice where the breach is serious or the law requires us to act quickly;
  • refuse to renew your Plan or sell you further licences;
  • share your identity and licence details with the rights holder, a court or an authority, where the law requires it or a court orders it.

If we revoke your licence, we stop issuing and renewing Licence Keys for you, and the Software stops delivering streams when your current key expires. No refund is due when we suspend or revoke a licence for breach of these Terms.

9. Fees, term and updates

  • Fees: as set out in your order or invoice, paid in advance. Prices exclude taxes, which you pay.
  • Term and renewal: your Plan runs for the term in your order and renews [automatically unless you cancel / only when you pay for a renewal].
  • Refunds: [fees are non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise].
  • Expiry: when your licence expires or is revoked, the Software stops delivering streams to End Users. The management panel and your Customer Data stay on your servers, so you can still export them.
  • Updates: during a paid Plan you receive the updates we release for your edition. You install them yourself. We may change or remove features, but we will not materially reduce the core functions of your Plan during a term you have paid for.
  • Programme guide: your Plan includes an API key for our EPG service, valid for as long as your licence is.
  • Support: as described in your Plan.

10. Ownership and open-source components

We and our licensors own the Software and all rights in it. You get only the licence in section 2. Minimus and our logos are our trademarks.

The Software includes open-source components, each under its own licence, listed in the Software and at [open-source notices link]. Those licences govern those components, and nothing in these Terms limits the rights they give you.

If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.

11. Warranties, liability and indemnity

Warranty. We will supply the Software substantially as described in its documentation. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, the Software is provided "as is", without any other warranty, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation or freedom from errors.

Limitation of liability. As far as the law allows:

  • we are not liable for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss;
  • our total liability under these Terms in any 12-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Your indemnity. You will defend us, our staff and our suppliers against any claim, fine, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your Content, your service, your resellers or End Users, or a breach of section 4 or 5, and compensate us for them. We will tell you about the claim promptly. You may control its defence, with our reasonable help at your cost, unless we choose to defend ourselves at our own cost.

12. Ending the licence and general terms

Ending the licence. You may stop using the Software at any time. We may end your licence on 30 days' notice for any reason, refunding fees for the unused part of a paid term, or at once if you materially breach these Terms or fail to pay. When the licence ends, you must stop using the Software and delete it. Sections 4, 5, 8, 10, 11 and 12 continue after it ends.

Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms. We will give you 30 days' notice of material changes by email or in the panel. The changes apply from your next renewal, or earlier if the law requires it.

Governing law. These Terms are governed by the law of [Country], and the courts of [Country] have exclusive jurisdiction.

General. These Terms and your order are the whole agreement between us about the Software. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. You may not transfer these Terms without our written consent. Neither of us is liable for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
